Science on Saturday – Separating the Good from the Bad: Cleaner Air and Water Using NanomaterialsSaturday, February 17, 202410:00 a.m. (doors open at 9 a.m.)Registration is Required – Click HERE to Register
Humans require clean air and water to survive. In an increasingly polluted environment that we live in, there is an urgency to separate out the things that make us ill (“bad”) from the air and water we breathe in and drink (“good”). Carbon nanotubes are tiny hollow cylinders (like straws we use to drink soda) made entirely of carbon atoms. Such unique structure of these molecules allows them to be used as pores with a well-defined size distribution and length in filters that separate the “good” from the “bad”. This presentation takes the audience through a fascinating journey of carbon nanotubes, where we will describe their structures, production methods and the performance of nanofiltration membranes produced with them.
