As their name suggests, The Generation Gap Jazz Orchestra features the brilliant compositions and arrangements of Steven Feifke, the dazzling lead trumpet playing of Bijon Watson, and a cast of all-stars from several generations. Join us for an illuminating conversation with Ben Wildavsky, author of The Career Arts: Making the Most of College, Credentials, and Connections. The event will take place Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 6:30 – 8 p.m. in C234 at the Northfield Campus. Ben Wildavsky is a visiting scholar at the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development. He is the award-winning author of The Great Brain Race and co-editor of Reinventing Higher Education and Measuring Success. He is the host and co-producer of the Higher Ed Spotlight podcast. In his conversation with Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Peter Tragos, Wildavsky will discuss how students can prepare for success in a dynamic world by acquiring a mixture of broad education, targeted skills, and social capital – what he calls the Career Arts. They’ll discuss why the college degree remains the gold standard of credentials and how career-connected learning enhances opportunities for success. A Q&A session will follow their discussion. The Board of Education Meetings will be held in the Multipurpose Room (C234), Building C, Second Floor, at New Trier High School – Northfield Campus, 7 Happ Road, Northfield. The meeting will commence at 5:30 pm in open session and the Board will then immediately move to closed session; open session will resume, and the regular business of the Board will commence at 6:30 pm. If no closed session is included in a meeting agenda, the meeting will commence at 6:30 p.m., unless otherwise provided.
