    Families can join us at Neuwoehner High School on Saturday, February 24, from 9 AM to noon, for interactive classes, community vendors, networking opportunities, music, light refreshments, and fun learning! Sessions will include ways to support your student with literacy, math, self-determination at all ages, social-emotional learning, and transition support within school settings and beyond.
    Families are welcome to join at any point throughout the day and can stay for as many sessions as they wish. Family-to-family networking, light refreshments, and community vendors will be available during the entire event.

    The Alternatives to Guardianship Project helps people with developmental disabilities avoid or terminate unnecessary guardianships by using safe and legal alternatives. It encourages and assists parents, educators, judges, lawyers, physicians, and other professionals to implement such alternatives whenever feasible. It promotes the adoption of public policies and systemic changes to protect the rights of people with developmental disabilities, ensuring equal rights and access to justice. These activities are accomplished through research, education, counseling, and advocacy.

    Join FACE for a Family Cafe! Cafes are hosted by families for families. They provide parents and caregivers with a safe and welcoming space to connect and learn from each other. They are centered on the Strengthening Families Protective Factors: Resilience, Relationships, Knowledge, Support, and Communication.

  • Lunch and Learn: St. Louis Arc’s Next Program

    Special School District’s FACE (Family and Community Engagement) is excited to offer a virtual Lunch & Learn series for SSD families and stakeholders. The series, which will involve community organizations sharing information about their work, will continue during the 2023-24 school year and take place from 11:30 AM – Noon.
    St. Lous Arc’s Next transition program provides focused, impactful supports for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they prepare for their future. Next provides various programs which support individuals navigate what is next in their lives. The support offered in Next is centered on what is needed by the individual. Through skill building, goal development, and social activities, young adults are able to identify and work toward their goals. From an extra nudge in the right direction to classes that teach living skills, we will help you identify what’s Next.
    Events are held virtually through YouTube Live. To access the video, please visit the SSD YouTube channel. The video will not be available to view until its scheduled date and time.

    SSD’s FACE (Family and Community Engagement) has partnered with the Community Action Agency of St. Louis County (CAASTLC) to provide our community with additional support and access to resources that promote healthy families and thriving communities. A representative from CASSTLC will be available at the SSD Family Resource Hub (located inside North Tech High School) on the first Friday of each month to provide information and access to many of their programs, including the Low-Income Home Energy Program (LIHEAP) and Water Assistance Program (LIWAP).
    CASSTLC can provide the following programs and services to families:

    Case management
    Utility assistance
    Rental assistance
    Financial education
    Weatherization
    Program development and educational activities.
